William Bone, Founder and Chief Executive Officer
 

William Bone founded Sunrise Company in 1963 and is Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Sunrise Company.

He is a nationally recognized expert in resort residential, hotel and recreation development having developed twelve country club communities, built over twenty golf courses, constructed more than 12,000 homes, built two resort hotels and developed numerous office buildings, shopping centers and commercial hotels.  He is frequently sought as a speaker on how to successfully design, develop and market these types of real estate projects.

Born in Bakersfield, California, he received a B.A. in economics from Stanford University in 1963 and an M.B.A. from Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration in 1965.

He has served as a Director/Trustee of the Building Industry Association/Greater Los Angeles Chapter; Stanford Club of Los Angeles; World Vision, Inc.; Fuller Theological Seminary; Eisenhower Medical Center; Dunn School; Bighorn Research Institute; College of the Desert Endowment Campaign for Educational Excellence; Los Angeles Music Center; La Quinta Girls and Boys Club; Friends of the Bob Hope Cultural Center; Marshall Industries; Coachella Valley School District Foundation, Palm Desert Foundation; Bob Hope Chrysler Golf Classic; the University of California Riverside Foundation; Vice Chairman of the Urban Land Institute and Chairman and Founder of the Coachella Valley Friends of the University of California.

In 2003, Mr. Bone received the “Legends” Award from the National Association of Homebuilders. In 1992 he was inducted into the California Building Industry Association Hall of Fame and also received the College of the Desert’s Alumni Association Hall of Fame Award for community leadership.  In June 1991, Mr. Bone was honored by the Desert Area, Riverside County chapter of the Building Industry Association (BIA) for his extraordinary contribution to post secondary educational opportunities for the Coachella Valley residents.  In addition to being selected 1991 Citizen of the Year by the Boy Scouts, Mr. Bone was awarded the Palm Springs Life Magazine’s Builder of the Decade of 1988.

     
Randall Bone, President
 

As President of Sunrise Company, Randall Bone brings more than 15 years of hands on experience in the development of more than $2.5 Billion dollars in real estate projects and has a diverse and extensive education from the country’s best educational institutions.

Starting his career in construction, Mr. Bone moved through the critical path of project management, finance and new project start ups, gaining extensive experience in each aspect of the project development cycle. He has been responsible for the start up and management of both international and domestic projects.

Mr. Bone is a Trustee of the Urban Land Institute and serves as Chairman of the Recreational Development Council and as a member of the Leadership Group. Mr. Bone graduated Cum Laude from the University of California at Los Angeles with dual B.A. degrees in Economics and Philosophy, with departmental honors, while minoring in Physics. Mr. Bone later received his M.B.A. with High Distinction as a Baker Scholar from The Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration.

     
Phillip Smith, Chief Operating Officer and President of Coachella Valley
 

Phillip K. Smith, Jr., is Chief Operating Officer of Sunrise Company and President of the Coachella Valley Division. In addition to being responsible for overall operations of Sunrise Company, Mr. Smith is also responsible for operating the Coachella Valley region and has led development of Indian Ridge Country Club and Toscana Country Club.

Before joining Sunrise Company in 1980, Mr. Smith was a partner in the Los Angeles law firm of Greenberg, Glusker, Fields, Claman, & Machtinger where he specialized in the legal aspects of real estate development and was a member of the Management Committee.

Mr. Smith is a member of the Urban Land Institute and Past-President of the Building Industry Association, Desert Chapter. He is a Trustee of the Family YMCA of the Desert, an Elder in the Palm Desert Community Presbyterian Church, a Director of Indian Wells Town Hall and a former board member of the Palm Valley School. He served on the citizen’s advisory committee for the City of Palm Desert’s Desert Willow golf resort development.

Mr. Smith received a B.A. in International Relations from the University of California at Los Angeles and a J.D. from Stanford University School of Law.

     
Dirk Gosda, President of Colorado Region
 

Dirk Gosda is the President of Sunrise Company’s Colorado Division. In addition to being responsible for overall operations of Sunrise Company in Colorado, Mr. Gosda is also responsible for the acquisition of properties that meet the Sunrise Company criteria. Previously, Mr. Gosda served as the President of the Las Vegas and Houston Divisions for Sunrise and was instrumental in moving Sunrise into those new regions.

Before joining Sunrise Company in 1997, Mr. Gosda spent over ten years as Founder and President of Jesbet Corp., the managing partner in Northlake, a 1,600-acre land development project in Los Angeles County, California. While there, he was responsible for all aspects of pre-development engineering, land planning and successful entitlement of the property for a 3,983 unit, master-planned, golf course community.

During his career, Mr. Gosda has served in many civic, charitable and political capacities including Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation Commissioner and President of the Los Angeles County Chamber of Commerce. He has also served on the Board of Trustees for the Castaic Union School District and Chairman of the North County Transportation Coalition. Mr. Gosda has received numerous awards for his civic endeavors including the Melvin Jones Award from the Lion’s Club and Man of The Year in 1992 by the Los Angeles County Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Gosda received a B.A. in Accounting and a C.P.A. from the University of Houston.

     
Jim Hinton, Managing Principal, Sunrise Luxury Living
 

Jim Hinton is the Managing Principal of Sunrise Luxury Living and has over 25 years of experience in commercial real estate and has focused exclusively on multifamily assets for over 20 years.

Before starting Sunrise Luxury Living, Mr. Hinton was the Senior Vice President of Real Estate Investments (REI) at Camden Property Trust, one of the largest public Real Estate Investment Trusts (REIT) in the United States, Mr. Hinton’s primary responsibilities included overseeing all facets of multifamily investments including, but not limited to, financing, development, acquisition and disposition of multifamily communities.  Mr. Hinton also led the company to strategically acquire core land parcels for future development and/or commodity warehousing.Between 1993 - 2003, the REI team led by Jim Hinton developed 58 projects totaling over 20,000 units with a value of over $2.2 billion.  In 2003, Mr. Hinton also assumed responsibility for acquisitions and dispositions directly overseeing the REI team as it acquired and disposed of over $416 million in assets. Mr. Hinton has acquired, developed and sold properties in over 23 states in the U.S.

Prior to joining Camden, Mr. Hinton was employed with J.E. Roberts Co. acquiring  real estate portfolios for  the Goldman Sach's Whitehall Funds. Mr. Hinton received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in real estate finance from the University of Texas in 1978.  He is a licensed real estate broker in the State of Texas and the State of California.

     
Paul Levy, President Club Operations and Development
 

Paul Levy is the President of Club Operations and Development for all Sunrise club operations including Toscana Country Club in Indian Wells, California, Royal Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas and Garden of the Gods Club in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In addition, he serves as the Chief Executive Officer and General Manager for Toscana Country Club. Before joining Sunrise Company in 1999, Mr. Levy owned the PKL Golf Group which specialized in golf development and management. Mr. Levy has over 20 years of experience in developing and managing country club operations.

A PGA Golf Professional since 1983, Mr. Levy has been an active member of the PGA of America and was President of the Southern Texas PGA in 1999-2000 and has been the recipient of several awards such as Merchandiser of the Year, Bill Strausbaugh/Club Relations, three time winner of the Southern Texas PGA Junior Golf Leader award and the Golf Professional of the Year award four times in his Chapter and once in 2000 for the STPGA. Today, he is one of four PGA members who sit on the prestigious PGA of America Board of Control that oversees all membership matters for the national PGA.

Mr. Levy received a Bachelor of Science degree in General Studies from Louisiana State University where he was a member of the golf team.

     
Gary Berger, Executive Vice President of Construction
 

As Executive Vice President of Construction, Gary E. Berger is responsible for overseeing all construction activities at Sunrise Company including home building, offsite, land development, golf course and club facilities construction. During his career, he has been responsible for the land development and construction of nine golf course-oriented master-planned communities and has constructed more than 12,000 homes, 11 championship golf courses and six clubhouses.

In the 35 years since he joined Sunrise Company, Mr. Berger has held numerous management positions within the company ranging from Construction Superintendent to President of Sunrise’s construction subsidiary. He has overseen purchasing, contract writing, field construction, home construction, engineering, landscape architecture and customer service.

Mr. Berger served in the United States Navy as Yeoman Second Class.

     
Julie Knepp, Vice President of Marketing
 

Julie Knepp is the Vice President of Marketing for Sunrise Company and oversees all marketing activities for the homes, country clubs and daily fee golf course including Toscana Country Club in Indian Wells, California, Royal Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas and Garden of the Gods Club in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Before joining Sunrise Company in 2001, Ms. Knepp was employed by Goswick Advertising where she specialized in real estate development marketing. She brings a creative, technical and hands on approach to marketing the Sunrise communities.

Ms. Knepp is a graduate of Northern Illinois University and Clemson University, where she received a Masters degree.
